Ward’s introduction to covalent molecules lab activity

Teach students how to transfer the concept of basic molecular structure from a two-dimensional electron-dot diagram to an actual three-dimensional model in a few easy steps. The three-dimensional models provide a realistic representation of the configuration of a substance and indicate its physical properties. Studying the electron-dot diagram and then building a molecular model allows students to more easily grasp how unshared electron pairs and covalent bonds determine the structure of molecules. The kit comes with enough materials for ten setups, a teacher’s guide, and student copymasters.
