This simple, accurate, and economical activity clearly illustrates the principles of thin-layer chromatography to beginning students in just one lab session. Students use indicators, developers, and chromatography chambers to run chromatograms of five different dye solutions to learn about rate of flow, then run chromatograms of two “unknown” solutions. You can also use this to determine the purity of a system. It contains enough materials for up 24 students, a teacher’s manual, and student worksheets.
